The Forestry Training Institute (FTI) was established in 1937 to provide a two year training for Forest Rangers at certificate level. It is operating under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. The institute has expanded gradually both academically and structurally. This improvement has been achieved through the commitment of the Government of Tanzania (GOT) and other external donors. Both national and international students are recruited and admitted every year
Position: PROJECT MANAGER (PM) - RE-ADVERTISED
POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Manager (PM) works out of the Project Office located in the Forestry Training Institute, Olmotonyi. The PM will be jointly responsible for the overall technical and coordination of the project. He/She will work closely with Project secretariat and TA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Represent and/or act on behalf of the project in communicating and negotiating with potential/existing partners in the PFM/REDD +and Climate change capacity building program of Tanzania.
- In close collaboration with the TA, Project secretariat and Training Coordinator (TC) oversee and implement project activities defined in the project document as well as acting as national focal point and contact for appropriate stakeholders and partners associated with this project.
- In consultation with the TA, Project secretariat and TC, establish a project office for project implementation and coordination.
- Facilitate the necessary preparatory work and subsequent proposal for the development and/or support of /for a national PFM/REDD + and Climate change capacity building level program.
- Provide regular up-to-date reports to project partners on key forest and participatory forestry development in Tanzania and Eastern Africa (quarterly basis).
- Convene and provide project progress reports, work-plans and budget to project steering committee
- Identify and promote best practices for participatory forest management and monitor overall progress in the PFM sector at national, sub-national and district levels and share with TA, Project secretariat, project staff, MJUMITA and the training team.
- Assist with the identification of organizations and funding agencies that have interest in developing project proposals.
- Actively engage and contribute to the work of existing neutral platforms involved in participatory forest management in Tanzania.
- Provide support to management counterpart on efficient project management including finances, HR, M and E, reporting and administration.
- Prepare project budget, work plan and progress reports.
- Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by FTI, TA and the Project secretariat from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- 5 years experience in PFM/REDD + and Climate change or participatory natural resource management field project/program implementation.
- Proved record of working experience in community forestry or community –based forest management in Tanzania.
- MSc in Forestry, NRM, Agriculture, Environment or equivalent.
- Strong team building, leadership and networking qualities
- Fluent written and spoken English and Kiswahili
- Willingness to travel frequently
- Experience in using excel, power point and other computer packages
- Field work experience at the community level in community based forest Management or community base natural management will be an added advantage
- He / She must be a Tanzania nation
TERMS OF CONTRACT
Four years contract, renewable every year subject to availability of funds
