Branch Accountant ( 1 Post)
Job Summary:
Reporting to Branch Manager, Job holder will be responsible for advising Branch Manager on issues relating to accounting. Custodian of fixed assets facilitates preparation of branch annual budget. Responsible for all branch administration matters.
Duties and responsibilities:
Branch Accountant’s duties and responsibilities will include the following:
§ Heading Accounts Division;
§ Assisting the Branch Manager in all matters related to accounting;
§ Implementing the approved system of internal controls and administer financial accounting policies and procedures;
§ Supervising issuance of customers’ requirements for operating their accounts.
§ Ensuring all computer input and outputs relating to customers and branch accounts, are checked and are in order;
§ Ensuring that daily vouchers transactions journals are in archives as per procedure;
§ Human resource management and development;
§ Maintaining good book-keeping by pointing out bottlenecks and recommending corrective measures;
§ Preparation of branch budget;
§ Managing cashiers and cash limits;
§ Authorization of cash vouchers and internal vouchers within the limit;
§ Ensuring that all branch general/ subsidiary ledger accounts are reconciled and returns submitted as per calendar of returns;
§ Ensuring timely submission of statements to customers as required;
§ Supervising dormant / inactive /restricted accounts;
§ Supervising inward/outward, unpaid cheques and management of bank records;
§ Supervising stop payments;
§ Prime custodian to the branch strong room;
§ Attending/following up on omissions highlighted in Audit / Inspection Reports;
§ Ensuring that all exceptions are timely reported;
§ Initiation of solutions to difficult customer equerries;
§ Identification of potential customers;
§ Ensuring overall profitability of the bank by checking and tracing revenue recoveries;
§ Attending to any other relevant duties as directed by the branch manager;
§ Performing any relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Managing Director;
Educational Qualifications
Holder of degree in Accountancy or Post Graduate Diploma in Accountancy or Advanced Diploma in Accountancy and CPA or equivalent accounting professional qualification from a recognized University or Institution or from the National Board of Accountants and Auditors;
Experience and Competence required
§ Working experience of not less than 4 years in a senior accounting position in a bank;
§ Registered with the National Board of Accountants and Auditors in the category of Authorized Accountant;
§ Computer literate in spreadsheet/Database-related package, Word processing, PowerPoint and other skills;
§ Knowledge of selling and negotiation techniques;
§ Sound knowledge of BOT prudential guidelines and regulations;
§ Having an understanding of applicable tax laws and preparation of statutory returns;
§ Good communication skills in both English and Kiswahili;
Knowledge of Banker’s Realm accounting system will be an added advantage
