Director, Business of Health - Market Linkages

The economies of many countries continue to be disrupted by endemic diseases that can be substantially reduced through improved availability of drugs and health services.

Cash strapped economies are looking for more efficient approaches to providing health related services.

MEDA has proven that effective private sector innovations can contribute significantly to these goals.

The Director, Business of Health- Market Linkages will provide direction and management to achieve the overall success for the Business of Health’s mandate and goals.

This is a full time permanent position based in either Washington D.C. or Waterloo, Ontario.

Regular international travel to Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, and other locations is required.

Ideal start date is September 2011.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing commercial approaches to delivering health-related products and services that serve the poor, AND/OR designing and implementing commercial solutions to health related problems (ie. vouchers for access to medical services).

• Proven track record of at least ten (10) years professional management experience in

project development and implementation, staff management, program planning and

budgeting, and delivering consulting services.

• University degree, ideally a Masters, and ideally combining the disciplines of Public Health (or related field), Business Administration, International Economic Development (or related field).

• Ideally five (5) years overseas management experience.

• Demonstrated experience managing health-related projects including the unique intersection between health programming and commercial approaches to development.

• Strong experience working with bi- and multi- lateral government agencies, donors,

non-governmental organizations and other development agencies.

• Excellent skills in building relationships, networking and presentation, negotiation and interpersonal communication.

• Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, French, or Portuguese is an advantage.

• Willingness to undertake extensive international travel.

• Appreciation and support of MEDA’s faith, values and goals.
