Bugando Medical Centre is a consultant and teaching hospital for the Lake and Western zones of the United Republic of Tanzania. It is situated along the shores of Lake Victoria in Mwanza City. It has 900 beds and over 1000 employees. Entry Qualifications:

  • Holder of a Diploma in Laboratory Technology from a recognized Institution, who have been registered in the register of the Health Laboratory Practitioners as Health Laboratory Technologist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receiving, extracting and recording samples for laboratory examinations.
  • Preparing laboratory equipment and chemicals for laboratory tests and examinations
  • Keeping and maintaining patients records
  • Maintaining list of laboratory equipment in the department
  • Carrying out laboratory examination of samples and recording the
  • results under the supervision of a Senior laboratory Technologist

Salary Scale PMGSS.4.1

Age Limit Not above 3S years of age

Health Laboratory Scientific Officer Grade I – 1 Post

Health Laboratory Scientific Officer Grade I – 1 Post

a) Required Qualification
Holder of Bachelor degree/Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Advanced
Diploma from a recognized Institution. Must have been registered as a Graduate Health
Laboratory Scientific Officer by competent board/authority

c) Experience: Three (3) years working experience in similar post

d) Duties and Responsibilities 
i) Organizes practical for undergraduate students.
ii) Participates in consultancy projects under close supervision of senior staff.
iii) Assists in consultancy, research and development in health field.
iv) Assists Academic staff in their research and development activities.
v) Plans and supervises maintenance of laboratory/ workshop equipments and facilities.
vi) Prepares manuscripts, laboratory practical and other relevant needs.
vii) Instructs undergraduate and postgraduate students during practical.
vii) Develops and modifies student’s experiments and experimental rigns in consultation with academic members of staff.
x) Supervises and orients Technicians and Artisans in their duties.
xi) Conducts on the job training for Technicians.
xii) Guides technicians in their daily activities

Xiii) Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer

Laboratory Technicians (3 Posts)

The New-Born Screening for Child Survival – Sickle Cell Disease Project (NBS) has received funding from Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF) to establish a New-Born Screening programme (NBS) to identify children with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) at birth. The NBS programme has exciting employment opportunities for highly motivated and result-driven professionals interested in working in the health sector.

The duty station for all these positions is Dar es Salaam.

LABORATORY TECHNICIANS (3 POSTS)

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the job holder is responsible for processing of the laboratory samples received and ensuring they meet the set criteria.

Specific Responsibilities
· Performs daily QC runs on all laboratory tests/procedures.
· Performs testing of all relevant tests for the projects
· Documentation of daily operation, recalibration, preventive maintenance service and repair of the machines/analyzers in the operational, reagent, calibration, maintenance and corrective action logs
· Troubleshoot any technical faults of the machine using operator's guide manual and report to the laboratory supervisor in case the problem persists
· Analyze samples/panels received for external quality control program and submit them within deadline
· Checking and recording all the laboratory results before validation/verification by a laboratory supervisor/lab director or designee
· Archive all the source documents after testing in the appropriate files
· Prepare summary reports of the machines/analyzers at the end of every month
· Ensures proper repository of specimens as per study protocol
· Responsible for the daily operation and handling of all data queries, all upgrades and exporting regarding the LDMS.
· Receives reagents, test kits, controls, calibrators stored for testing
· Ensures proper storage of perishable supplies in the storage room
· Documentation such as temperature monitoring charts, maintenance logs of freezers/fridges
· Ensures proper repository of specimens as per study protocol
· Responsible for the daily operation and handling of all data queries, all upgrades and exporting regarding the LDMS.
· Receives, registers, records and logs in specimens in lab registers/computer program.
· Ensures specimen rejection criteria are followed

Key Qualifications
· A minimum degree in BSc in Medical Laboratory or equivalent
· A minimum of Two (2) years working experience in Clinical laboratory

Other relevant skills experience
· Knowledge of current laboratory facilities and best practices in lab operations, methods, equipment, materials and ability to perform standardized biological, chemical, and microbiological examinations independently.
· Advanced understanding of Good Clinical Laboratory Practise (GCLPs), regulatory/ accreditation agency requirements and lab based Quality Management System (QMS).
· Excellent Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications.
· Good communicator with patients, co-workers, junior and senior staff.

Entry Qualifications

Main Duties and responsibilities
· Assisting in receiving, extracting and recording samples for laboratory examinations.

Water Labaoratory Technician II - 1 post

Kahama shinyanga water supply and sanitation authority (KASHWASA) wishes to recruit competent Tanzania’s to fill the fallowing vacant post.

Position: Water Labaoratory Technician II - 1 post

Reporting to: water production engineer
Duty station: Ihelele, Misungwi district

Qualification and Experience

  • holder of Diploma in Water laboratory from a recognized technical college.
  • In service employees must possess the above qualifications and have at least 4 years working experience and a good track working record.

Duties And Responsibilities:
i. Sampling and testing raw water in order to establish qualities and chemical required for treatment.
ii. Taking water same sample at different location of the water source as required.
iii. Writing regular report on water quality analysis,
iv. Monitoring water quality and insuring compliance with the compliance with the prescribed WHO and Tanzania Standard of drinking water.
v. Maintaining record on the condition of raw and treated water.
vi. Assessing chlorine residual in the transmission network and taking appropriate actions.
vii. Tracking and monitoring in the transmission network and treatment water plant and post-chlorination centers.
viii. Perfuming any other duties as may be assigned by the production engineer.

AGE LIMIT: Not above 45 years for all posts.
