Purpose:
GVEP supports the growth of energy-focused micro, small and medium sized enterprises, as a means to drive economic prosperity and contribute to energy access in the region in a way that is inclusive of people living in poverty. A key element of this work is to link energy businesses, which we support, to loan products and other finance.
The GVEP Programmes component [PDP2] in Tanzania supports and promotes energy enterprises engaging with phone charging and diversification to other related energy businesses such as barber shop, video show, cooling drinks(refrigeration) in off-grid communities of the Lake Zone.
The key element of the project among others is the comprehensive business training, technology training, financial training and gender training with tailor-made mentorship prepared to mitigate enterprises challenges/barriers for growth. The project also supports market development activities in specifically defined niches and financial linkages to mitigate the capital access problem. GVEP wish to recruit a Business Development Services Coordinator who will be based in Mwanza with frequently travelling in either of clusters in Bariadi, Bunda, Magu, Chato, Kahama, Shinyanga, Geita, Misungwi and Sengerema Tanzania.
Main responsibilities include:
· Coordinating the recruitment of solar phone charging enterprises/entrepreneurs, solar PV equipment retailers and suppliers under the programme;
· Provide supervision and monitoring to the work Regional Business Mentor-RBM and Regional Technology Mentor-RTM.
· Coordinate and review field works report and prepare monthly team report for Country Manager.
· Conduct vetting to identified potential enterprises.
· Conducting due diligence on businesses and assessing suitability to join the programme,
· Conducting needs assessments of the engaged enterprises to identify gaps in knowledge and where further support is required.
· Organizing and delivering business development training to entrepreneurs under the programme.
· Inputting into the design and development of business, technical, and financial training curriculum and materials for entrepreneurs. These include topics such as solar PV systems, solar phone charging equipment sizing and design, entrepreneurship, customer management, marketing, financial management, record keeping and business planning.
· Organizing the logistics conducting the trainings, including identifying suitable venues, mobilize trainers and inviting participants.
· Delivering business development trainings to entrepreneurs and conduct after training follow-ups to measure trainees understanding of the materials and their opinions for improvements and further trainings.
· Organizing additional growth trainings tailored to the needs of entrepreneurs based on needs identified.
· Coordinating and monitoring the mentoring of entrepreneurs to ensure they receive relevant and adequate advisory services to meet their business development targets.
· Responsibility for a pool of entrepreneurs under the programme and managing the services provided to these entrepreneurs by Regional Business and Technology Mentors.
· Developing mentoring guidelines and advising the mentoring team on potential strategies to employ.
· Reviewing and inputting into mentoring action plans.
· Organizing regular meeting with the mentor team to review progress and issues and develop forthcoming work plans.
· Ensuring coordination and communication between the business and technical mentors so that complementary advice is provided.
· Ensuring enterprises have full and adequate business plans for the duration of the program which detail enterprise growth targets and identify investment requirements.
· Inputting into the development of detailed business plans.
· Helping businesses identify growth targets and financial requirements.
· Conducting due diligence on completed business plans to ensure they are of the required standard.
· Recommending businesses to apply for business loans from financial institutions participating in the GVEP guarantee program based on business plans and assisting them in their application.
· Supporting the Loan Guarantee Fund team in assessing businesses for financing and monitoring the disbursed loans to ensure they are used for the intended purposes and repayments are made on time.
· Coordinating and monitoring the collection of data for monitoring and evaluation purposes including enterprises sales data, loan disbursement and repayment data and business development activities conducted.
· Supporting entrepreneurs to engage in promotional activities create new market linkages and expand their market reach.
· Developing marketing strategies for enterprises supported under the program.
· Organizing market development activities and events to raise consumer awareness of entrepreneurs’ products.
· Assisting entrepreneurs in developing promotional material for their business including logos, business cards and flyers.
· Actively identifying new markets and potential new customers for entrepreneurs and assisting them to access these opportunities.
· Oversee implementation of health and safety guidelines in the supported enterprises and in delivering the mentoring services by the Regional Business and Technology Mentors.
· Inputting into programme reporting and assisting programme management in other activities as and when necessary
Qualifications, skills and experience
· Holder of a minimum of Degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurships, Project Management or a Master Degree in relevant field
· Trained in solar PV Systems or renewable energy from a recognized institution
· Minimum of 4 years’ hands on experience in renewable energy business, particularly in rural settings and micro enterprises development
· Hands on experience as a trainer, facilitator and advisor in energy technology business, production, installation, utilization/operations and maintenance.
· Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
· Good communication and writing skills
· Analytical and skills related to renewable energy business performance and growth.
· Ability to create, impart technical skills and guide an enterprise to achieve the desired business performance.
