WE ARE RECRUITING A YRN OFFICER AT MBEYA
Are you an ambitious,
self-driven, experienced young professional who is ready to be
challenged? Are you ready to push yourself and maximize your potential?
Are you based in Mbeya? If so, Restless Development Tanzania is looking
for YOU!
Restless Development is the national banner
carrier for youth-led development. We’ve been in Tanzania since 1993,
growing, changing and responding to the most urgent issues facing young
Tanzanians. Our work in Tanzania has been cited best practice for our
unrivalled methodologies by the World Bank and UNICEF and we are this
year winners of the 2014 Resolve Award from the Global Leaders Council
for Health. Directly reaching over 110,000 young people across 14
regions each year, it is our young volunteers and youth led networks
that lead and deliver transformative change.
Today, we
address some of the biggest issues on the table including: the role of
young people in the constitution and election process, unemployment,
adolescent girls, and development beyond 2015. Over the last 12 months
our work has contributed on the ground to:
• 53,785 young people accessing sexual reproductive health programmes and services
•
11,701 young people accessing civic education and advocacy training,
with 6,966 of them engaged in the constitutional review process
• 5,100 young people trained on how to set up their own business and as a result 2,431 micro-enterprises have been established.

The
Young Reporters Network (YRN) falls under the Mabinti Tushike Hatamu
(MTH) project delivered in partnership with UNICEF and TACAIDS, and
implemented in Mbeya, Iringa and Temeke. MTH aims to test, evaluate and
share strategies for reducing the vulnerability of adolescent
out-of-school females aged 10-19 to HIV and AIDS, pregnancy and
violence. YRN thus complements the MTH initiative by supporting girls to
gain access to media and voice their opinions on issues affecting their
rights, and to contribute to the empowerment of children and young
people in Tanzania.
About the role:
Working
alongside the MTH project teams, you will oversee implementation of YRN
initiatives in Mbeya, which will focus on teaching new skills in radio
reporting, writing, editing and production of children’s programmes and
mediated radio products; provide young girl reporters with basic
journalism skills; and increase active participation of children and
young people in the production of children’s programmes in the
districts. You will also provide support to build the capacity of young
girls to be advocates of their rights, report on child rights issues,
and actively participate in the production of children’s radio
programmes and products by synergizing the work of volunteers and
out-of-school girls with whom we work. You will support MTH volunteers
to mobilize children to identify issues affecting them, and gather
information and stories for broadcasting on community radio stations;
Nuru FM (Iringa) and Generation FM (Mbeya)
About you:
You
will be a highly creative individual with a passion for working with
vulnerable women and girls. You will have a background in media work,
and training and coaching marginalized groups as activists. We strongly
encourage young women, engendered young men, and ex-volunteers to apply.
If you are the one we are looking for, apply now till 23rd July 2015.
