Position: Database Administrator II (Networks and Office Automation) - 1 Post
Place: Bank of Tanzania (BOT)

Reports to: Head of Division
Contract Type: Contract for unspecified period of time
Location: Head Office, Dar es Salaam

Job Purpose: 
To support the Oracle databases and ensure their performance, availability and security. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

a) Installing, testing new versions of Oracle Database Management Systems (DBMS) and upgrading Oracle Servers and application tools; 
b) Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for database system; 
c) Working with Systems Engineers to ensure that the appropriate hardware resources are allocated to the databases for availability and optimum performance; 
d) Monitoring database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime; 
e) Monitoring and optimizing performance of databases to provide fast query responses to front end users; 
f) Developing, managing and testing backup and recovery plans of database information; 
g) Ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly; 
h) Controlling and monitoring user access to the database; 
i) Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata'); 
j) Performing other related duties as may be assigned by Supervisor. 

Education/Professional Qualifications and Experience Required: 

a) Bachelor‟s Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent from an accredited institution; 
b) A minimum of three (3) years of working experience in Oracle Database Administration in a reputable organization; 
c) Experience in managing Oracle RDBMS in large systems; 
d) Experience with other database systems, preferably SQL Server; 
e) Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service; 
f) Practical experience in managing the internal and external Oracle database security; 
g) Certification in Database Administration will be an added advantage; 
h) Ability to work independently; 
i) Experience in Oracle Database Administration tools, PL/SQL Programming, UNIX shell scripting, Oracle Certification preferably OCP will be an added advantage; 
j) Masters Degree will be an added advantage.
