Merchandising Manager

JOB TITLE:  Merchandising Manager
RERORTING TO:  Head - Sales 
Industry:  Furniture / Retail 

JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for ensuring that products appear in the right location, or on a website, at the appropriate time and in the correct quantities. This involves working closely with the sales teams to accurately forecast trends, plan stock levels and monitor performance. 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years in merchandising function with demonstrated solid results and consistent advancement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Work hand in hand to forecast buying patterns with Logistics, Production and Procurement departments.
§ Examine merchandise to ensure that it is correctly priced and displayed and that it functions as advertised.
§ Merchandise showroom to optimize the “TLR Eclectic” look and feel.
§ Maintain inventory space and sales floor in an organized manner to enhance safety and efficiency.
§ Planning product ranges and preparing sales and stock plans in conjunction with buyers;
§ Working closely with visual display staff and department heads to decide how goods should be displayed to maximize customer interest and sales;
§ Producing layout plans for locations, sometimes called 'statements';
§ Controlling stock levels based on forecasts for the season;
§ Analyzing every aspect of bestsellers (for example, the bestselling price points, products or ranges) and ensuring that bestsellers reach their full potential;
§ Monitoring slow sellers and taking action to reduce prices or set promotions as necessary;
§ Gathering information on customers' reactions to products;
§ Analyzing previous season's sales and reporting on the current season's lines;
§ Accompanying buyers on visits to manufacturers to appreciate production processes;
§ Ensure that products are given effective promotional attention.
§ Responds to inquiries and complaints regarding merchandise.
§ Any other duty assigned by your immediate boss or top management under the ‘Sales’ function.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
§ Bachelor of Science in Apparel Merchandising; or B.Com.
§ Mandatory know-how of basic merchandising, retailing and management principles, fashion coordination and promotion, visual and specialty merchandising and retail buying.
§ Technical expertise and knowledge of company products.
§ Effective negotiation skills; people management; persuasion skills.
§ Analytical skills & business acumen; creativity and maintain customer relationships. 
§ Fluency in English and Swahili both written and spoken.
§ Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to a diverse audience.
§ Demonstrate the highest level of ethical behavior.
§ Remain flexible in order to adapt to changes in work environment.
§ Computer skills, including e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets.
