Production Coordinator, Tanzania

Location:       Tanzania

Reports to: Senior Production Manager

Contract duration: 12 months (with possible extension)

Salary: Highly competitive within Tanzanian NGO market rates

Job purpose
The Production Coordinator will be responsible for acting as a conduit between the production department and the finance and administration teams. The post holder will provide logistical support for all radio, television and digital media production within BBC Media Action’s operations in Tanzania, including drama and discussion programmes.

S/he will support the Senior Production Manager in retaining an oversight and technical leadership role for all broadcast outputs, ensuring systems are in place to support all aspects of production, as well as every stage of the project from project design to start up, pre-production, production and post-production.

Main duties
  • Scheduling and coordinating local and national shoots
  • Maintaining episode planners and shoot lists
  • Meeting and maintaining production deadlines.
  • Sourcing and managing locations for filming/ recording and release forms.
  • Identifying and organising talent release forms where necessary. 
  • Managing production contracts and travel arrangements including flights, accommodation, per diems, car hire, meal requirements and itineraries for crew and cast 
  • Organising script templates and story research for presenters. 
  • Picking up and delivering of equipment and or props to shoots.
  • Managing and organising carnets for international shoot
  • Support production teams to manage production budgets effectively, and to report to the Country Director and Senior Projects Manager to ensure appropriate financial management, monitoring and reporting;
  • Support Senior Production Manager and Senior Producers to manage risk related to production 
  • Along with Senior Production Manager and Senior Producers, ensure that BBC Health and Safety guidelines are observed on all productions, staff are trained and briefed to manage risk in a highly challenging environment and support is provided to others to take appropriate measures to minimize exposure to perceived risks

Academic qualifications, knowledge and technical skills
Two to three years experience in radio and/or TV production; experience in digital media a plus but not essential
  • Considerable production budget management experience with proven experience of successful project management against tight deadlines
  • Experience of setting up systems for managing production resources
  • Excellent interpersonal leadership skills. Experience of leading and managing talent and production teams, as well as managing diverse teams
  • Knowledge of BBC editorial values, aims and objectives, and an ability to apply these to media development projects. Ability to demonstrate strong editorial judgement
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili (verbal and written)
