Vascular Function Intervention Trial in Sickle Cell Disease
CLINICAL TRIAL RESEARCH MEDICAL OFFICER
The Job: The candidate is required to coordinate day to day activities and be responsible for clinical and physiological data collection for this clinical trial. S/he will undergo 2 months intensive training in the UK in late 2011 in the assessment of vascular function using a non-invasive technique known as “flow-mediated dilatation”. The position is for 2-2.5 years.
The person: The person must be able to demonstrate the leadership skills, diligence, aptitude, attention to detail and flexibility that is required to lead a small multidisciplinary team in the successful conduct of a complex clinical trial.
Essential requirements:
(1) Degree of doctor of Medicine (MD) or its equivalent form and completed internship, plus at least 1 year’s further clinical or work experience in a health related field.
(2) Good academic experience during medical training;
(3) Excellent written and spoken English and Swahili;
(4) Computer literate;
(5) An interest in pursuing a career in clinical research.
CLINICAL TRIAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT
The Job: A senior nurse or clinical officer is required to assist the above position with the collection of clinical and physiological data collection at study visits. This person will also undergo the same training in the UK as the medical officer. The position is for 2 years.
The person: The person must be capable of working independently and have a “can do” attitude; be diligent with good attention to detail.
Essential requirements:
(1) Advanced diploma or above in nursing or diploma in clinical medicine;
(2) Good written and spoken Swahili and English;
(3) Basic computer skills.
Desired requirements include:
(1) Post-graduate qualification (position 1);
(2) Experience in conducting research, preferably in clinical trial and Experience in sonography techniques for both the positions.
