Program Officer - SWISSAID Tanzania

Location: Mtwara

Background:

SWISSAID Tanzania is a non governmental organization has been operating in Tanzania since 1993. The Strategic goal is to support grassroots groups in order to assure sustainable development of the rural communities. A new strategic plan for the new phase (2009/13 of the SWISSAID Tanzania program has been elaborated. The new strategic plan requires placement of program officer at regional level.


Job purpose:


To support projects and contribute to the development and monitoring of the SWISSAID Tanzania regional programme. The incumbent will be in charge of all matters pertaining to SWISSAID support to community & civil society organizations and value chain development at regional level.

Some of the key duties and responsibilities:

• Supporting the coordination of SWISSAID programme activities in the region
• Ensure programme resources are disbursed and accounted for efficiently and carefully
• Supporting the management of Swissaid staff team in the districts
• Ensuring effective collaboration with partners institutions, like minded organizations and communities
• Contribute to capacity building of partner organizations
• Facilitate planning and implementation and monitoring & evaluation of SWISSAID regional strategies to improve peoples livelihoods
• Assist Senior Programm Officer (SPO) to assess and negotiate project proposals with partner organizations according to set criteria and write up layout.
• Assist SWISSAID partners in proposal formulation including budgets.
• Promote crosscutting issues (gender and social inequalities, HIV/AIDS and environment) to partner organizations and facilitate actions to address them.
• Plan and conduct regular visits to partner organizations, to supervise, provide guidance and coaching to partners.

Qualifications and experience:

• Holder of first degree in Agronomy/ Agricultural economics/or in field related to rural development (Masters degree is an added advantage)
• A minimum of five years experience in related field
• Practical experiences and interest in working with partners including the government, private sector and civil society organizations.
• Passionate on Biodiversity conservation
• Good knowledge in value chain development is an added advantage
• Experiences in fundraising and grants management
• A commitment to equal opportunities and a promotion of gender equality
• Skills in Monitoring and Evaluation
• High level analytical and report-writing skills
• Fluent in both oral and written English
• Must be computer literate
• Ability to work independently
• Possesses a clean driving license
• MUST be Tanzanian national
