The greater Ruvuma landscape of Southern Tanzania and Northern Mozambique, flanking the Ruvuma River along the border is one of the last great wilderness wildlife landscapes in Africa. The vision is to ensure that the outstanding and globally significant natural wealth and biodiversity are sustained, and support local livelihoods and national economic development for present and future generations.
A number of programmes are implemented by WWF in both the terrestrial and marine areas. The specific programmes that are implemented in the landscape include Species (elephant & rhinos conservation and management), Forestry, Marine, Freshwater, and Renewable Energy. WWF’s involvement in the Ruvuma landscape also entails working with a variety of stakeholders, landowners and key partners including local communities, national and local Government Agencies, NGOs and the private sector. Due to the diversity and complexity of the types of programmes which are inter-linked and cross cutting in nature, diverse biodiversity threats and stakeholders present in the landscape,
