Contract duration: 12 months (with possible extension)
Job purpose:
The postholder will provide effective transport facilitation to BBC Media Action country office staff.
In order to successfully do so, the driver must be able to communicate BBC Media Action's purpose effectively and demonstrate commitment and integrity that serves as an example to others.
Main duties
- To drive BBC Media Action vehicles in safe courteous manner at all times as assigned by the BBC Media Action standard procedures
- To observe BBC Health and Safety standards
- Responsible for the proper use and security of BBC Media Action vehicles and equipment
- To ensure that the vehicle is clean at all times
- Compliance with working hours as instructed. The Driver must work in accordance with the operational requirements of BBC Media Action in Tanzania
- Perform daily vehicle inspections for the vehicle
- Check vehicle for safety (tyres, puncture, engine oil, water dashboard lights and battery component) before use each day and see that insurance and registration are carried out on time
- Responsible for the vehicle's equipment (jack, spare-wheel, first aid box, fire extinguisher, triangle reflector, tools and spanners, radio and cassettes and supported by vehicle inventory card/sheet inside the vehicle
- Refuelling the vehicle on time
- Taking the vehicle for service when due
- Filling the log book for any trip approved and not to undertake any trip without approval
- Reporting all defects immediately to BBC Media Action Administrative Assistant
- Responsible for maintaining BBC Media Action procedures, rules and regulations regarding the vehicle
- Travelling up country with BBC Media Action staff on programme for activities
- To indicate the vehicle fuel and service costs
- To ensure all vehicle reports are done on a monthly basis and submitted on or before the scheduled date
Academic qualifications, knowledge and skills
- Minimum of secondary school education is preferred
- A clean and valid driving license of classes B, C and E and certificate of good conduct.
- A minimum of two years of experience driving
- Basic computer skills, especially in word processing and spreadsheets will be an added advantage
- Good interpersonal, communication (English and Kiswahili written and spoken) a must.
- Road safety certification will be an added advantage
- NIT certificate is a must

• Should be willing, ready and able to perform other duties as delegated to him/her by the immediate supervisor
