The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of A/V Information Assistant in Public Affairs Section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

A/V Information Assistant reports to PAO through Information Specialist. A/V Information Assistant is responsible for development, distribution and placement of all audio-visual materials suitable for PD programming and placement on local print and broadcast media and Internet, as well as for showings at educational and cultural institutions and local organizations. Incumbent advises FSN supervisor and PAO on the selection of audio-visual equipment and materials and closely works with IRC Director and Arts and Graphics Assistant.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Plans and organizes and sets up audio-visual programming at venues of mission activities and is responsible for the maintenance of audio-visual equipment; keeps current replacement schedules and advises PAO when new acquisitions are needed. 40%


Supervises and manages post’s TVRO capability with responsibility for overseeing the receipt, recording and distribution of American Embassy Television Network and VOA-TV programs. The A/V Information Assistant also serves as a technical advisor for all post’s programs involving electronic communications, including AFNETS, electronic dialogues, televised press conferences and Digital Video Conferences (DVCs), and the Internet. 25%


Develops Power Point presentations for use in PAS outreach programming. 10%


Occasionally does video shooting for mission programs and dubs videotapes for placement on local television and Embassy Internet website. 5%


Accompanies the IBB TVRO Contractor Engineer during PMI visits to VOA Affiliates around Tanzania and prepares reports for PAO. 5%


The AV/IA coordinates and communicates with officers and technicians of local VOA affiliates and other Radio and Television stations in providing them with VOA-TV and Department of State TV schedules and other technical advises or information he receives from IBB. 10%


Records and maintains educational, political and business video documentaries from American Embassy Television Network & VOA-TZ and lends these tapes to individuals/professionals including government policy makers and other public sector officials, political leaders, business people, journalists, and others whose work require in-depth information to various subjects. 5%



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  1. Education: Completion of Advanced Secondary School (form VI) and a certificate in electronic technician program required.


  2. Prior experience: Three years experience in communications media, a radio broadcaster or audio visual specialist required.


  3. Language proficiency: Level IV (fluent) in English and Kiswahili (writing, reading and speaking) is required.


  4. Knowledge: A good knowledge of programs aims and objective. A good working knowledge of Tanzania's cultural, political, economic, social and educational structure and of key figures in the mass media. A good general knowledge of public relations techniques.


  5. Skills and Abilities: Ability to develop and maintain effective working level contacts in the communications media. Ability to operate and utilize electronic A/V equipment. Ability to use information technologies and internet media to advance Embassy Outreach goals. Ability to propose plan and execute programming. Thorough IT Software skills required.


SELECTION PROCESS
